Reactive Silencers

In most gas-flow pipes with pulsed excitation, very high sound pressure levels occur with significant peaks. The spectrum of such peaks is marked - in addition to the often dominant low frequency basic modes - by a multitude of overtones which excite the whole gas-flow structure to radiate noise. An effective reduction of the noise level caused by exhaust gas is only possible with sufficient damping, particularly the low frequencies.

By using reactive silencers of a small size in gas-flow pipes, very low up to mid frequencies can most effectively be attenuated. When knowing the output spectrum and the exact gas parameters, the design of every silencer will be adapted individually to each application, taking into consideration the local requirements, the permitted pressure drop and the frequency range to be reduced (both narrow and broadband noise). To determine the appropriate design, the company ’s own computer programs are used. The high performance of our computer programs has been confirmed in numerous field measurements carried out for silencer installations.

Advantages of our Reactive Silencers:

  • Wide application range, e.g. behind combustion engines, in compressor circuits, upstream and downstream of rotary piston blowers, in flue gas stacks and exhaust gas systems, etc.
  • No fibrous material required, i.e. easy cleaning, no contamination of the medium
  • Available in all nominal diameters and pressures required in practice
  • Very compact design providing highest attenuation
  • Broadband attenuation in combination with absorption silencers
  • Effective damping of resonances in pipe systems.
